Minnesota Fishing
Resort
Bass fishing
Over 40,000 acres, 1,200 miles of shoreline
and 365 islands make Lake Vermilion a largemouth and smallmouth bass fisherman's paradise. Long renowned as one of Minnesota's best
bass lakes, Lake Vermilion offers trophy potential large-mouth and small-mouth bass.
Lake Vermilion has had a very strong small mouth bass fishery for decades
and a small to medium large mouth population. The DNR tests bass
populations through electrofishing. Bass populations are measured by
counting bass caught per hour in specific habitat locations. The historic
average for bass has been 32 fish per hour in Vermilion. In 2001 the
average was 50 fish per hour! We are currently benefiting from outstanding
natural reproduction in small mouth. 1988, 1991, 1994, 1995, 1997, 1998,
and 2001 have all produced very strong year classes for small mouth. This
means that every size small mouth is well represented in the population from
fingerlings to 20 plus inch monsters.
